Time-of-day rates

Start main content

A lot of Spanish households have chosen to contract electricity with CHC Energá’s time-of-day rates, an alternative that may suit your in making savings in the family budget.

This type of tariff sets different prices based on the time of day. Electricity tariffs with time-of-day rates have one peak and one off-peak consumption period.

How are these time-of-day electricity rates implemented?

Peak and off-peak electricity rates vary based on the time of year, being adapted to the time change in Spain. The summer timetable runs from April to October and the winter timetable runs from November to March.

Depending on the contracted rates, peak and off-peak hours are distributed as follows:

For tariffs 2.1DHA 2.0DHA

Winter timetable

  • Peak: From 12:00 (midday) to 22:00.
  • Off-peak (reduced price): From 22:00 to 12:00 (midday).

Summer timetable

  • Peak: From 13:00 to 23:00.
  • Off-peak (reduced price): From 23:00 to 13:00.

Is it cost-effective to contract time-of-day electricity rates?

It may be advisable, provided that at least 30% of consumption is made during off-peak hours.

How to get the best from time-of-day electricity rates?

The most efficient way is to organise the activities that involve higher energy use by following a few simple guidelines. For example, in a home, we recommend:

  • That you use the washing machine, dryer and dishwasher during the hours with low electricity rates. By doing this, you might be able to get up to 40% savings on your electricity consumption.
  • Cook in the morning, during the hours of off-peak electricity rates, as they are the most economical. If you work from Monday to Friday, take advantage of the weekends.
